Few centres in North London provide such a holistic, multidisciplinary approach to PDoC care. We utilise specific assessment tools, including:
Coma Recovery Scale-Revised (CRS-R): This standardised assessment evaluates six key areas: sensory responses, motor responses, communication, and wakefulness. Each assessment lasts 15-30 minutes and should be conducted over five sessions to obtain the most accurate picture of the individual's progress.
Wessex Head Injury Matrix (WHIM): This observational tool tracks the resident's responses to various prompts across multiple environments, documenting their behaviours on a ranked scale from coma to emergence. Assessment sessions are repeated ten times for comprehensive evaluation.
Additionally, we incorporate informal observations from family members, friends, and carers, which enrich the assessment process during everyday interactions.
