Imagine a world where electrical stimulation (Functional Electrical Stimulation - FES) breathes life into muscles, and innovative spasticity management transforms movement possibilities. We specialise in gait re-education, nurturing every step, and offer around-the-clock postural management using advanced tools like electrical standing frames, tilt tables, and the delightful Motomed.
Our respiratory physiotherapy and tracheostomy care ensure that every breath taken is comfortable and effortless.
Our therapy team works harmoniously with NHS agencies, conducting personalised wheeled mobility assessments to deliver seating solutions tailored to individual needs.
Our therapy team also collaborates with regional spasticity clinics for comprehensive medication reviews and focal treatments, including the remarkable Botox and an intrathecal baclofen pump referral.
Occupational Therapy
At Victoria Care Centre, our dedicated occupational therapist team is committed to providing specialised assessments and tailored treatments to enhance the functional independence of our residents. Our focus is improving the performance of activities of daily living (ADLs) through practical support and personalised care.
We collaborate closely with carers and families, offering essential education and training to foster independence in daily routines. Our therapists are equipped to assess and create custom-made hand splints while working alongside the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to provide expert postural and seating advice.
Our residents have access to a specially designed therapy assessment kitchen, which reinforces skills learned in therapy sessions. This resource enables residents to practice and apply their newfound skills in a supportive environment.
Our occupational therapists conduct comprehensive assessments, including the Wessex Head Injury Matrix (WHIM) and the Coma Recovery Scale-R (CRS-R). We focus on clinical observation, management, and treatment for residents diagnosed with Prolonged Disorders of Consciousness (PDOC), encompassing conditions such as Vegetative State (VS) and Minimally Conscious State (MCS).
Speech & Language Therapy
At Victoria Care Centre, our dedicated team of speech and language therapists supports residents experiencing a wide range of speech, communication, and swallowing difficulties stemming from neurological conditions. These challenges may include:

We understand the importance of partnership in care. Our therapists work closely with families and carers to offer guidance and support, helping to reinforce the strategies we implement. Additionally, our therapists evaluate the need for assistive technologies to enhance communication and improve the overall quality of life.
Our speech and language therapists are also highly trained in diagnosing and treating upper airway disorders, such as inducible laryngeal obstruction. Collaborating with other NHS professionals, we prioritise airway management and work proactively to improve throat health and address speech and swallowing challenges.
